New PCIA Presentation Tool Tells the "Tower Story"

"Tower Industry 101"  Presentation Educates on Industry Inner Workings

Wednesday, October 8, 2003, Alexandria, Va. --- PCIA, The Wireless Infrastructure Association announced today the release of its Tower Industry 101 PowerPoint presentation, an industry-wide outreach tool designed to communicate the wireless infrastructure industry’s business model, its support of collocation and it’s importance to wireless service coverage in the United States. The presentation gives PCIA members and others in the industry an educational tool to use in zoning hearings, at meetings with government agencies at the local and federal level and with business partners. The goal of the presentation is to educate the public about the infrastructure industry’s impact on the wireless landscape.

“There are a lot of misconceptions about antenna siting and this presentation is a proactive way to help our members demystify this industry,” said Jay Kitchen, President & CEO of PCIA. “We know how important towers are to carriers and that wireless phones won’t work without towers – but not everyone else does. This presentation helps people understand how our business works.”

Tower Industry 101 was created in collaboration with PCIA’s Technology Committee made up of the industry’s top technology leaders. Heading up the outreach development effort were: Ted Abrams, Chair of the PCIA Technology Committee, CTO, SpectraSite Communications; Kurt Bagwell, COO, SBA Communications; Rich Biby, Principal Engineer, CrownCastle USA and Keith Kaczmarek, CTO, FiberTower.

The PCIA Technology Committee was formed in 2000, to support outreach and advocacy efforts for PCIA members. “The PCIA Technology Committee has worked very hard to create a tool that speaks to many audiences. This is a great tool for industry participants to easily explain how this industry works and why it is relevant,” said Kitchen.
