Launches Women's Wireless Leadership Forum (WWLF) January 5, 2004, Alexandria, Va. --- PCIA, The Wireless Infrastructure Association announced today a January 2004 launch of its Women's Wireless Leadership Forum (WWLF) -- a professional association for all levels of women in the wireless industry. In its inaugural year WWLF will conduct efforts to build membership, establish a website with relevant education and professional content, build a member data base accessible to members for professional networking, conduct a series of educational teleconferences and hold three in-person meetings. The WWLF will be managed by PCIA and is led by Julie Coons, Executive Vice President of PCIA. "WWLF is an opportunity for professional women in wireless to exchange ideas and become part of a community that educates, trains and provides networking opportunities," said Coons. "It is designed to give all levels of women executives broad opportunities to connect and develop business relationships with one another, to benefit their companies." Strong support has already been shown for WWLF, which officially begins signing up new members in January 2004. Some of the members participating are:
Coons said the organization has well-defined goals to ensure its success. For example, the WWLF has a goal of signing up 100 members by March 2004 and will hold its first educational teleconference in February 2004. "We have already established education, governance and membership committees and potential members are already asking for positions," said Coons. "We're incredibly pleased by the positive response and look forward to our first educational event in February." PCIA saw the need for the WWLF because women are an integral part of the association. For example, women make up 20 percent of PCIA's individual executive members, 20 percent of the 2003 Wireless Infrastructure Conference & Expo speaker roster and 30 percent of the Wireless Conference & Expo attendee base. "Women executives figured prominently in every aspect of PCIA's committee work, regulatory actions and its trade show programming. Creating WWLF is in sync with other PCIA activities, so it was a natural for this association," said Julie Coons, Executive-Vice President, PCIA. The newly formed WWLF individual membership program will co-exist with PCIA corporate membership that serves the wireless infrastructure industry. WWLF Charter membership registration will start January 2004 and will cost $150 for private sector professionals and $85 for government officials.
