PCIA Mission PCIA represents companies that develop, own, manage and operate towers, commercial rooftops and other facilities for the provision of all types of wireless, broadcasting and telecommunications services. PCIA understands that wireless communications cannot advance without the critical infrastructure provided by the tower and antenna companies. Therefore, PCIA is dedicated to advancing an understanding of the benefits of wireless services and required infrastructure to local and federal government officials and communities at large. PCIA activities include lobbying of federal, state and local agencies, educating PCIA members on new legislative initiatives and representing member interests before regulatory bodies. The ultimate goal of these activities is to assist our members in fulfilling the 1996 Telecommunications Act mandate to provide wireless services to the nation, as quickly as possible. PCIA Activities Success for the Wireless Infrastructure Industry The key to success in the wireless industry is to thoroughly understand the customer and their needs. For tower and antenna companies, this is a two-fold process. They must address and fulfill the needs of their carrier customers, but they must also look beyond the carriers to their customers the mobile device user. Many of the business opportunities and challenges for carriers are attributable to the quality of their networks, because it is the network that has the most direct impact on the end user. Market research indicates a direct correlation between network performance problems and customer churn. Tower and antenna companies know this and are dedicated to efficient network design and deployment. The infrastructure industry is the lynch pin between the carriers and their customers. They're ready to build out and strengthen wireless networks by adding more towers and increasing co-location of antennae. And it's PCIA's mission to help them do this. PCIA Actions for Members PCIA members are positioned for success because PCIA provides its members with:
The PCIA regulatory team was the driving force behind the signing of the National Programmatic Agreement for the Co-location of Antennas, which eliminated the burden of Sec. 106 historical filings for co-locations that have no impact on historical properties. Some in the industry have suggested that this act alone will save the industry up to three-quarters of a billion dollars. PCIA provides issue briefs, forums for discussion and educational sessions at our meetings and conferences that help members carve a smoother path to increasing cell site density. We ensure that members have a better understanding of regulatory compliance issues to ensure a local zoning board hears your case objectively. At the PCIA Wireless Infrastructure Conference & Expo, PCIA provides attendees with educational sessions on how to devise business strategies to capture the best marketplace opportunities. And since one of the most significant challenges for tower companies right now is how to successfully manage in the tumultuous state of the wireless industry and the wary investors that follow it, we've developed programs that help the tower industry build and maintain relationships with Wall Street.
